From November 2021 to now, I’ve had the honor of helping the team at Katie Couric Media every week with digital illustrations and photo collages for their online articles and their weekly newsletter Wake-Up Call, ranging from topics about lifestyle, health and wellness, technology, and more. Although I was initially brought on to create illustrations, the photographic approach became a big part of the brand’s 2022 refresh, which I was able to help bring to life by providing color suggestions, style recommendations, and general improvements to the user interface.

Working with Katie’s unique brand voice and the brand’s style guidelines has given me a newfound level of expertise in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator through the distinct applications of color, line work, shadows, and distinct image treatments. Creating feature images for a newsletter with millions of subscribers also comes with its own challenges – determining how to pare down the artwork to its simplest elements and creating an appealing layout can make all the difference. For example, the snowstorm image below generated 50% more clicks than usual! This client was truly one for the books.
