the museum exhibition brief

For this interesting project, we were asked to select a random designer or design movement, conduct research on the life and work of our subjects, and then design a poster for a fictional exhibition on our subjects at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Although I wanted to pay homage to El Lissitsky’s work in my piece, I also wanted to create something that had a modern touch and a relatable color scheme. Additionally, since I couldn’t seem to nail down a typeface that really caught the essence of Lissitsky’s work for the headline of the poster, I decided to create my own, which was inspired by his early Constructivist work (and also inspired by J. Otto Seibold’s incredible typeface for Boots Riley’s groundbreaking film, Sorry to Bother You). After completing the poster, I fleshed out the rest of the letterforms.
